Radici Court: Where Tennis, Spirit, and Community Converge By Charles Ward & Fabiano Caputo It Started With a Rally We met on a court in Ojai. No introductions. No expectations. Just two people moving in rhythm, feeling something beyond the game itself. That first rally said more than words could. We didn’t know it then, but that moment planted the seed for what would become Radici Court. A Vision Rooted in Stillness and Motion We kept showing up. Playing. Listening. Reflecting. Not about strategy or growth, but about life. Movement. Presence. We talked about the kind of experiences we both wanted to create—where tennis wasn’t about ego or competition, but about connection. Where people could slow down, play with intention, and feel something true. Radici means roots in Italian. That word kept coming up. It spoke to what we were building—something grounded, nourishing, and alive. Who We Are I’m Charles . I’ve spent my career designing and building spaces—homes, studios, places where people gather. But Radici is different. It’s not just physical. It’s emotional. Spiritual. It’s a space I’ve longed for in my own life, and now get to help shape with care and creativity. It’s the most honest work I’ve ever done. I’m Fabiano . I didn’t grow up chasing tennis trophies or coming through the competitive ranks. My relationship to tennis came later, and it came with depth. It became a spiritual practice—one that helped me find rhythm, breath, and clarity. I don’t coach for performance. I coach for presence. For connection. Radici lets me offer the game in the way I’ve always felt it: as a gateway to something more meaningful. Together, we’re creating a space where people can return to joy, to movement, to themselves. The First Retreat: From Pivot to Presence Our first retreat was supposed to take place on a remote estate near Indian Wells. We had everything dialed in—and then it all fell through days before the event. We shifted to La Quinta , and in that pivot, something clicked. It wasn’t a backup. It was a revelation. The energy of that space, the intimacy, the beauty—it all supported what we were trying to do. We played. We gathered. We shared meals and stillness and laughter. The experience was grounding, joyful, and true. That retreat reminded us what Radici is really about: being present, no matter the plan. Where We Are Now Radici Court is on the move . Right now, we’re offering experiences across Southern California —each one crafted to the land, the moment, and the people present. We’re collaborating with beautiful spaces that feel aligned, like The Courts in Anza-Borrego with our friend Adil , and exploring opportunities in Ojai, Topanga, Santa Ynez, Santa Barbara , and beyond. Each event is unique, shaped by the environment and community that holds it. But the core stays the same: presence, movement, simplicity, and joy. Where We’re Headed: Rooting in Ojai As we travel, we’re also building toward a home. We envision a permanent space in Ojai —a sanctuary with hand-built clay courts , intentional architecture , and a living program of tennis, wellness, and community connection . A place where families can gather, creatives can recharge, and anyone—regardless of level—can come to play, grow, and be. It won’t be a country club. It’ll be a space for healing, ritual, joy, and belonging. Until then, we’ll keep creating this experience wherever it’s welcome. Join Us If this resonates, we invite you to come play. Host us. Collaborate with us. Join one of our gatherings. Walk alongside us as we build something that feels like a return—home to your body, your breath, and a deeper way of being together. We’re not building a brand. We’re building a miracle. And we’re just getting started. Ready to experience mindful tennis? Radici Court in Ojai: A Sacred Weekend of Tennis, Spirit & Connection As Radici Court prepares to host an unforgettable gathering during the Ojai Tennis Tournament , we invite you to join us in a weekend of rooted connection, mindful movement, and soulful presence. Set within the golden light of Ojai, California , our event is more than an escape—it’s a return to essence. Tennis is our language. Spirit, community, and nature are our rhythm. Ojai: A Valley of Roots, Ritual, and Reverence Long before it was a mecca for wellness retreats and organic markets, Ojai was known as "Awhai" —the Chumash word for “moon.” This valley was, and still is, a sacred site. The Chumash people , its first inhabitants, honored Ojai as a space for ceremony, healing, and spiritual stewardship . Their connection to land was rooted in rhythm and reverence—a lineage we hold with care. In the 20th century, Jiddu Krishnamurti made Ojai his home, establishing a quiet revolution in spiritual thought centered on presence and awareness. Writers, mystics, musicians, and seekers followed, drawn to Ojai’s rare east-west mountain range , the famed “Pink Moment,” and a palpable energy vortex . The result is a town that breathes with consciousness. At Radici Court, we don’t just admire this history—we mirror it . Our events are crafted with the same devotion to nature, mindfulness, and meaningful human connection. The Hermitage Ranch: A Sanctuary of Earth and Intentional Design Our experience takes place at The Hermitage Ranch , a private 47-acre estate nestled in Upper Ojai. With views of the Los Padres National Forest , the land invites stillness, reflection, and play. A single tennis court—nearly 100 years old—rests in its own grove Three American Mammoth Donkeys —Rusty, Winston, and Woody—embody grounded presence A beautiful chicken garden is home to beloved hens, surrounded by rosemary, citrus, and protective fencing Ranch cats weave through lavender and olive branches in quiet harmony This is not a venue—it’s a living expression of natural elegance , offering the perfect stage for intention, movement, and community gathering. The Ojai Tennis Tournament: A Legacy of Excellence We are proud to be major sponsors of the Ojai Tennis Tournament , the longest-running amateur tennis tournament in the U.S. since 1896. With more than 1,500 players and 100+ events—from NCAA D1 to juniors—the tournament brings together history, heritage, and high-level play . By sponsoring this event, we are honoring tradition while inviting a new lens: one that brings mindfulness into movement and spirit into sport . Julio Pulido – Elite Coach & Founder of TAP Mindset Joining us on court is Julio Pulido , Head Coach at Weil Tennis Academy and Co-Founder of TAP Mindset . Radici Court at Indian Wells: Where Tennis, Spirit, and Community Converged In March 2025, Radici Court hosted its inaugural Indian Wells retreat , and it was nothing short of extraordinary. Over the course of one sun-soaked desert weekend, sixteen guests from across Southern California came together to experience a transformative blend of tennis, mindfulness, and meaningful connection. A Historic Setting: La Quinta Resort & Club Our home for the weekend was the legendary La Quinta Resort & Club , a destination rich in heritage and architectural beauty. Designed in the 1920s by Wallace Neff , the resort’s whitewashed adobe walls, tiled walkways, and vibrant gardens transported us into another era—one where elegance and ease meet. Surrounded by the Santa Rosa Mountains and framed by blooming citrus trees, our guests played on La Quinta’s iconic Center Court , a favorite of many professional players during the BNP Paribas Open . The weather was flawless, with bright skies and perfect temperatures hovering in the 70s and 80s. Tennis, Elevated Throughout the weekend, our guests received private lessons and group coaching from a stellar lineup of tennis professionals: Fabiano Caputo – Radici Court co-founder and USPTA-certified coach, Fabiano brought deep wisdom, playfulness, and clarity to each session. His presence was the heartbeat of the weekend. Sean Pesin – A graduate of the Weil Tennis Academy in Ojai and former collegiate standout at Hobart and William Smith Colleges , Sean delivered powerful technique, quiet strength, and focused intention on the court. Markus Vorwald – An experienced teaching pro, Markus joined us for both instruction and open play, adding another layer of connection and joy. Inner Court: Movement Meets Mindfulness Our signature Inner Court sessions brought guests into deeper alignment—body, breath, and presence. Led by renowned facilitator Azzurro Mallin , these immersive sessions blended meditation , breathwork , gentle yoga , and dynamic tennis drills . Each gathering was crafted to spark introspection, community, and flow. Azzurro’s grounded facilitation created a container for guests to recharge, reset, and reconnect—with themselves and with one another. Culinary Connection We were nourished in every sense—especially through food. Our meals were crafted by Chef Lance Velasquez of Alice B. , the newest Palm Springs restaurant from award-winning culinary legends Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken . Lance’s seasonal, Mediterranean-inspired creations offered the perfect complement to our active days and reflective evenings. The BNP Paribas Experience As part of the retreat, we attended the BNP Paribas Open semifinals and finals at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden , one of the most spectacular venues in the sport. We watched Jack Draper upset Carlos Alcaraz, Holger Rune face off with Daniil Medvedev, and witnessed Mirra Andreeva , at just 17 years old, defeat Aryna Sabalenka to become the youngest woman to win since Serena Williams in 1999. It was a weekend of tennis history, and we were there for it. A Weekend to Remember Between morning meditations and high-energy drills, private massages and meaningful conversation, this weekend reminded us of what Radici Court is here to offer: a new way to engage with tennis—not just as a sport, but as a spiritual, physical, and social practice . This was more than a retreat. It was the beginning of something beautiful. We can’t wait to welcome you next time. Ready to experience mindful tennis?
